Bhadrachala Ramadasu (Kancharla Gopanna) who lived during 1620-1680 CE, was arrested by Abdullah Qutb Shah in 1662 CE and released by Tana Shah in 1674 CE. As per the last verse of his Dasarathi Satakam, his name was Gopanna the son of Linganna Mantri of Atreya Gotram. The temple is on the banks of the river Godavari River that is flowing in a southern way. It was constructed in the 17th century by the then Tahsildar of the place named Kancharla Goppana.
